Cuneiform Writing

Kudurru Boundary Stone 1125-1100 BC

Cuneiform writing was first developed by the ancient Sumerians over 5000 years ago. Its form was originally pictographic & over time it evolved into the wedge shaped cuneiform writing seen below. Its a beautiful script to look at and the method of imprinting the script into wet clay tablets and baking them is simply wonderful. Isn't it nice to know that a whole society were able to live a qualitative life without ever having to destroy forests for writing materials.

For this beautiful gift, I thank the Sumerians, the Black Headed people, who have given us the art of writing.

Beautiful & Awesome Volcanoes

Mt Krenitsyn Onekotan, Russia

The beauty and awesome power of volcanoes never ceases to amaze me. Many times I have visited volcano webcams and have been fortunate in seeing some live eruptions. In recent times I have watched the eruptions of Mt Etna, Mt St Helens, Mt Popo and Mt Agustine. The volcano I'd really like to see a webcam for is Mt Merapi in Java. Photos of the volcano in its present eruptive state look stunning, although I wouldnt mind guessing that a more fierce eruption is coming very soon. We wait with baited breath and hope that the people & animals there will be ok!

This stunningly beautiful volcano (above), in Russia is exquisite to look at. There are many volcanoes on the Kamchatka peninsula and they are breath-taking to behold. It is also well worth a visit on google earth just to look at the landscape there. And Iceland too, is another good place to visit for its amazing volcanoes and otherworldly landscapes. Enjoy...
